Know the Covering – Founder & CEO
Michael Altstiel (All Steel – No Tin, No Lead, but All Steel) is a man passionately devoted to the many roles God has placed in his life. He is a Counselor, Teacher, Speaker, Husband, Father, Son, Friend, and Co-Author. He is one of the founders and CEO of Know the Covering Ministries.
Michael graduated from Colorado Christian University in 1998 with a BS in Biology and a minor in Psychology and Biblical Studies. Upon graduation, he trained and Counseled at Christian Life Ministries (CLM) from 1998-2013 and was ordained in 2003.
As an Ordained Pastoral Counselor, Michael spent 16 years journeying to the “deepest depths of hearts” in his counseling office. After about 10 years, God began to stir something deep inside Michael and he longed to see men’s hearts: come alive for the things of God; be transformed by the power of His grace; be free to be real and quit pretending; to stand in victory over attacks from the enemy that seemed to hunt these men on a daily basis.
He was able to see God set broken men free over and over in his office, but how could he share these principles of God’s love and grace found in Scripture with more men. Then, 2010 came. That’s when the “God-driven” desire in Michael’s heart came face to face with the vehicle God would use to launch Know the Covering. Friend, Cliff Graham, approached Michael and shared how the hearts of men were being stirred toward God through his Biblical Fiction “Lion of War” novels. Cliff encouraged Michael to start a Non-Profit that would specifically go after the hearts of these men to equip, love, and disciple them. They began to pray, plan, and seek a Board of Directors with the same passion and purpose. In early 2013 Know the Covering Men’s Ministry was established and Michael answered the full-time call as Executive Director.
He has discovered that his own heart has come fully alive studying, teaching God’s Word, and journeying with fellow warriors. Michael is deeply convicted that God has designed man with an imbedded need for Kavode (glory). If this “glory” is found through knowing and fiercely depending on Jesus… then men will be great leaders in their homes, community and their spheres of influence.
He is committed to working out this dependency first in his own home with his best friend and wife, Leah, and their three children (1 Timothy 3:12). He desires his life to bring glory to his King alone and to be a testimony of His love, His strength and His honor in the lives of today’s man.
