When Jesus was arrested, Peter attacked his captors but Jesus reprimanded him saying, “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and He will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” (Matt. 25:53-54)
Jesus knew what He was commissioned to do. He was not taken against His will and murdered. He CHOSE to sacrifice Himself, He CHOSE to die. He was not powerless against the rage of the Jewish leaders and the Roman soldiers…quite the opposite in fact. They were powerless to stand in the way of God’s rage against sin and His perfect plan to bring about salvation to all who would believe. Jesus knew the big picture, He knew His purpose and He died willingly…for you and me.
